I’ve finally learned how to create with God and for God.
Hearing from Sparrow Daenitz…
Hi, you guys! This is Sparrow. Before I was a part of Emerge, I pretty much just did arts and crafts. I did do some art ministry on the side, but I wasn’t really aware that that’s what I was doing.
As a member of Emerge, I have grown so much as an artist and as a person–specifically, as a woman of God. The reason for this is the community of Emerge is full of like-minded people. Everybody with different angles to look at things and you can’t help but absorb all of the love.
It’s a safe place to show your artwork, to share your stories (when you need it to be confidential, it will be). I just feel like this whole extended family of friends has emerged from Emerge. I really need that support. As a retired person you don’t a lot of ways to make new friends. I just feel really loved and, I’ve grown closer to God. I’ve finally learned how to create with God and for God. That is my favorite, favorite prompt now.
Currently, I’m working on two items: one for the Rise Conference and one for Vine Arts and both are God-related, scripture-related.
I’m really happy. I don’t know where I’d be without these people. I look forward to meeting them in person at the conferences and I always look forward to story time and just gather whenever we can get together.
Thank you, Jessie, for creating this safe place for us to be creative and to be ourselves.

Emerge is Christ-centered. While members are not required to be Christians in order to be in Emerge, they are graduates of Foundations Art Ministry course. Every member is asked to understand that the point of Emerge is connecting our creativity with our faith in Jesus Christ.
Together we create a safe place to share our own stories. Whether they have pain or celebration, we practice processing our own stories through art. At the core of Emerge, we are a community who seek to understand, be humble, unify, confess, forgive, and make a difference through the power of Christ in each other and ourselves.
Being a part of Emerge has been great for understanding art fundamentals and to be a part of a community actively engaged in art ministry. I feel a little more confident in my art ministry practice as a result of being a part of this community.

What is Foundations Art Ministry?
Through a nine week course with a group of your peers, you will learn to grow through art ministry development. You’ll receive practical guidance that translates to individual, grassroots, for-profit business, and non-profit settings. Part of your learning includes practicing skills in giving kind, confident, valuable feedback that fosters people’s creativity. By the end of the course, students will develop their own Art Ministry Portfolio. All along the way, conversations with fellow students and with mentor, Jessie Nilo, will highlight your passions, creativity, and unique opportunities to grow.
