Meet: Kellyn Trapp
57-year-old mixed media artist, Kellyn Trapp, is based in Connecticut and loves to work with with a variety of art supplies and media, including watercolor, acrylic, and collage materials.
What art ministry is Kellyn involved with?
Kellyn leads and facilitates women of all ages in community through in-person and online opportunities to learn “how to grow in their relationship with God through art.” She also intentionally spends time “bringing joy and healing through art and music to the church and marketplace.”

What is Kellyn’s creative process like?
She prefers to write in the morning and paint in the afternoon. Usually, “I start my day creatively writing with my Father God and listening,” Kellyn says. “It’s in this time with Him that a devotion and a watercolor sketch is birthed to share in my blog. I am usually led to create as Holy Spirit guides me to do so.”
Although she’s tried to be more of a planner, it’s more natural for her to create being led by the spirit.
Kellyn writes in a blog (here) about her creative process. She also shares her experience with her husband as they bring the joy of art and music in a local senior community.
Why does Kellyn create?
“I love to create!” Kellyn says. Her creative time is full of praise and worship to God. While she’s writing or painting or working with collage–or any of her other variety of media–she says, “That’s when I feel His presence and how we communicate with one another intimately.”
An avid reader, Kellyn admits, “I have several books that I read on a regular basis so it’s not fair to pick only one as my favorite.” Her favorite book in the Bible, though, is Ephesians. She says, “Ephesians saved me from self-destruction of my identity in Christ.”

Encouragement from Kellyn Trapp:
Foundations Art Ministry Course graduate, Kellyn says that the best advice she’s received as a creative is “I am created in the image of God and created to be creative”
For anyone who thinks they are creative or who would like more creativity in their lives she urges them to go for it! She says, “There is no right or wrong with art. Just start.”

Inspiration comes from many places for Kellyn, especially nature. She says, “Nature, animals, birds and all of His creation inspires me! God’s Word, music and other artists inspire me.” While Kellyn doesn’t have an exclusive or particular affinity for one piece of art, she loves Vincent Van Gogh’s work “because of its loose and impressionistic style. It’s very free!” Kellyn says.

Kellyn Trapp is a graduate of God Loves Art Foundations of Art Ministry course, led by Jessie Nilo.
Kellyn Trapp says, “I have grown spiritually, creatively and professionally as an Art Minister. The Foundations of Art Ministry gave me a foundation to start and today I am ministering to churches, the marketplace and senior communities with art and music.”
Kellyn says that as an intsructor and mentor in Foundations, “Jessie is the one of the most sweetest human beings I have ever met. Jessie is genuine and has a heart to bring creativity to the world. Jessie’s work and ministry is inspiring to me in that we have similar passions for the arts in the marketplace and outreach. She is a prime example of how to love through art. Jessie is an amazing teacher and has taught me that creativity is a form of praise and worship that is missed in our communities and together with God as co-partners, we can bring healing, freedom, joy and peace to others.”
Thank you for joining us for this installment to share about graduates of our Foundations Art Ministry Course. Artists like Kellyn Trapp have put in a lot of work and we are really proud of them, glad to have them in our God Loves Art community, and excited to see where God leads them next.

You were born highly creative. Everyone around you was born creative, too. By the time they’re adults, most people believe they’re not creative at all. Let’s listen to God together. Art is important, so let’s get creating. God Loves Art.
