The 4th Watch

Raquel Mendoza Del Angel

Acrylic painting

Until recently, the last time this stay-at-home mother of 4 studied art was in high school. I decided to take an art class after almost 30 years! Holy Spirit said, “I will help you!” The teacher was amazed. He asked me, “this is your first time painting with color?’ “Yes”, I replied. And when I looked at the painting, in my heart I knew it wasn’t finished yet. I then had a vision of Jesus standing on the water. This vision reminded me of Matthew 14:25-33 when in the 4th watch, Jesus was with the disciples, and they were afraid of the storm on the sea. Miraculously, Jesus’ head appeared supernaturally! To change the focal point from the sun to the SON, I positioned Jesus’ head covering the sun. Then, I painted the rest of His body with His feet touching the water. I chose black for the silhouette of Jesus, because even though sometimes we can’t see or feel Him – He is there!
