God Stitched Blanket

Sandi Ackerman

Fabric

I received a request from a friend to repair this 32 year old baby blanket. Worn away crochet thread and areas where the pattern no longer existed. The granny square pattern was unfamiliar to me. I had nothing similar in my stash (or my mother’s) of crochet patterns.

“Father God, I have no idea what to do. Please help.”.

Yarn from long ago projects and a tiny hook became my tools. New stitches from a bag I was currently working on gave me ideas. Laying on the floor, (literally) I began to create.

Finally, the blanket was finished. Why the need to restore? Why not just keep one square behind glass as a keepsake? The friend’s son (owner) of the blanket was being deployed. He wanted to take the blanket with him.
Upside down art has no formal definition.
