Today the VineArts gang did something awesome: With no plan in place, together we painted our roll-up garage door in front of the studio! (Well, that’s partly right…. The door isn’t actually operational, as there is insulation and drywall on the interior side; we wish it was still a functional garage door. Alas, we only have a small glass door.)
But anyway. We’ve been meaning to paint that ugly plain garage door for months now… In fact we had scheduled this endeavor on a day back in October, but there was a downpour of rain that day, so we had to postpone.
So today we met for lunch after church for our regular 3rd Sunday gathering.
First we had show-and-tell. Bev showed some amazing mixed-media portraits she’s done of Davy Jones to help her process his recent passing. Susan showed us a gorgeous watercolor she did at Andy Sewell’s March workshop in our studio. Sherri and I showed our recycled art projects we’re working on for a local art contest supporting a non-profit that helps folks transition after prison or other hardships.
Then we prayed together for Lisa, who is leaving tomorrow for an art missions trip to Lithuania.
Finally we tackled our painting project on the door. We didn’t finish it today, but I’d say we got a lot done in only a two-hour painting session! Reminds me (kind of) of the style of Marc Chagall in his Binding of Isaac. The plan is to fiddle around now in Photoshop and make a plan to finish this Saturday, or at least make more headway. We’ll see what develops!
