Meet Jessie Nilo

Founder · Artist · Teacher · Foundations Instructor

BFA Illustration and BA Graphic Design, Boise State University, 2006

Jessie Nilo desperately wanted to be a full-time art monk.

In 2004, Jessie started a visual art and writing ministry at her church, first as a volunteer and then as part-time staff. She loved bringing the arts and ministry together. But when she asked to work full-time at the church, the church said they couldn’t afford it.

She was heartbroken. But God had other plans.

To supplement her income, Jessie began teaching teenagers at a private fine arts school where she discovered some of the most meaningful art ministry happens outside the church. Then she won a grant to bring art into prisons.

Those years expanded her understanding of art, ministry, and ways to bring creativity into everyday life.

Jessie’s work as a live painter, muralist, teacher, and creative facilitator has taken her into churches, fine art schools, prisons, businesses, city events, music festivals, and communities. Jessie’s artwork speaks to beauty and movement through her playful contour line and colorful brush strokes.

She founded God Loves Art in 2015, where she teaches art ministry to share all she learned. Jessie invites people around the world to share, explore, experiment, and discover where God will lead them in art ministry.

Meet Amy Hui

coFounder · Artist · designer · Foundations graduate

BFA Visual Communication / Digital Design , American InterContinental University, 2005

When Amy signed up for Jessie’s art ministry course, she had no idea where it would lead.

Amy was living in Texas when she joined Jessie’s online Foundations course. Curious and unafraid to ask questions, Amy’s participation grew into a mentoring relationship and creative business partnership.

Amy moved to Idaho, where she and Jessie became neighbors and art-making friends as well as cofounders of God Loves Art. They didn’t need to make the same kind of art—or even approach creativity the same way—to learn from and encourage each other.

Amy brings her background in design, and visual communication to God Loves Art. She’s a painter and mixed media artist who explores ideas of voice and belonging through her art. Amy also creates in assemblage, bringing discarded and found objects together to tell a visual story.
